Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Agricultural Scientific-Research Center of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, held a working meeting with the representatives of plantation farms on the issue of certification of grape seedling material, together with the specialists of the center.

The meeting was held against the background of planned changes in the law of Georgia on grapes and wine. These changes enhance the importance of using quality raw materials in the process of new vineyards, which is one of the core foundations of modern vineyard cultivation and sustainable development of the vineyard-winery industry.

“Assessment of the compliance of the vines is not just a formal process; it is the basis of the development of the vineyard field. The certification process of grape-cultured seedlings means purity, quality, reliability, and long-term results for the farmer who wants to grow a new vineyard. It is important that seedling manufacturers consistently and perfectly carry out all stages of grape seedling production and realize the importance of this process, noted Levan Ujmajuridze.

During the meeting, the participants learned in detail the requirements, procedures, stages, and deadlines for the certification of grape seed material. There was also a focus on the mechanisms of quality control for fertilization and reproductive materials.

It was especially noted that the production and use of research and disease-free materials is one of the main prerequisites for genetically reliable and high-performance vineyards, which will directly affect both grape yield and wine quality.

The Agricultural Scientific-Research Center will continue to support seedling-producing qualified seedling farms in the future, provide theoretical and practical consultations, step-by-step transfer of basic category beneficial material, and help in phytosanitary health laboratory studies of reproduction materials.
