Georgia has received accreditation from the United Nations International Search and Rescue Consultative Group (INSARAG) and became a full member of the International Rescue Committee.
Following INSARAG accreditation, Georgia has been granted the status of International Rescue Committee membership, which enables the country to participate in international rescue and humanitarian missions, strengthen cooperation with partner countries, and further establish Georgia’s place in the global rescue space.
This decision is based on the results of large-scale three-day simulation rescue operations in Georgia, organized by the Emergency Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
The main objective of the training was to provide a practical assessment of the capabilities of the Urban Search and Rescue Team of the Emergency Management Service and to confirm their compliance with INSARAG international standards.
The training simulation scenario included different components of urban disaster response. Involved in the process: Emergency Management Service Urban Search and Rescue Team, Chemical-Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Security (CBRN Security) Specialists, Patrol Police, and Ambulance Crews. Their joint activities aimed to test the effectiveness of the integrated response system.
During the simulation training, an environment to simulate a real disaster was created at 4 different locations, where the Field Operations Coordination Headquarters were deployed. International experts were on site observing the actions of Georgian firefighters – including the quality of coordination, speed of reaction, technical capabilities, and operational management system.
The training was attended by 15 international experts from France, Spain, Germany, Turkey, and other countries, who gave high estimation to the professionalism, technical capabilities, and operational management quality of the Georgian rescue team.
The closing ceremony of the training was held at the Emergency Management Service, where the service was officially awarded the certificate of membership.
