The head of the ruling Georgian Dream party in the Parliament Mamuka Mdinaradze said that the party is all set to resubmit the bill. This bill concerns the transparency of foreign influence in the Georgian Parliament.

His statement came today while addressing the media. This controversial draft law was retracted last year following public protests.

Mdinaradze specifically stated that “ The bill would be initiated in the Parliament with the same language as last year. However it will replace the term describing non-commercial legal entities and media outlets in the country deriving twenty per cent of their funding from abroad as “pursuing the interests of a foreign power” instead of “agents of foreign influence”.

He also said, “ As all of you remember last year right after the initiation of the bill we expressed readiness to replace the term ‘agent of foreign influence’ with a different wording. He added that this law will “protect the country from artificial attempts to cause unrest.”

According to him “As the country is on the way to European Integration the law of the country also needs to be updated as per the European standard. Moreover Georgian law should be equal to the United States of America the United Kingdom etc.

It is to be specifically added that the Georgian Parliament formally retracted the draft law last year following the decision by the ruling Georgian Dream party to withdraw the bill.

The decision was taken after Georgian-based non-governmental organisations, the United States Department of State European Union officials and the United Nations Office in Georgia all criticised the bill.

He also assured that the government is ready to make all the necessary changes to convert the country’s laws to progressive ones. The laws of any country can not be outdated in the present time as the entire world is connected due to the advancement of technology, especially the internet.
