Georgia gets €306.6 million for Batumi-Sarpi Highway

The Asian Development Bank allocated 306.6 million euros to Georgia for the construction of the Batumi-Sarpi highway.

Georgia: The Asian Development Bank allocated 306.6 million euros to Georgia for the construction of the Batumi-Sarpi highway. The project is considered one of the most important infrastructure developments for strengthening Georgia’s transport and trade links.

The  Ministry of Finance of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting held to discuss the construction of the project on its Official Facebook Page on Monday, October 6, 2025. The Georgian Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.

The Georgian Minister of Finance, Lasha Khutsishvili, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Permanent Representative Director of Georgia, Leslie Bearman Lamma, signed a loan agreement between Georgia and the Asian Development Bank, which will provide for the construction of the Batumi-Sarpi road, approximately 11 kilometers, mostly a two-lane highway.

The volume of the long-term loan is 306.6 million euros. Within the project, the highway will start from the Batumi bypass line and continue near the Sarpi border crossing with Turkey. Main engineering features include a 7.6 km double-way tunnel and a 1.47 km bridge over the Chorokhi River, which will be built according to trans-European highway standards.

Strategically, the project will promote regional integration and trade, while significantly reducing travel times and improving road safety standards.

The Ministers of Finance and Infrastructure, Lasha Khutsishvili and Revaz Sokhadze, and the Director of the Permanent Representative of the Asian Development Bank of Georgia, Leslie Bearman Lamma, talked about the importance of the mentioned project and, in general, about the issues of cooperation with the Asian Development Bank.

The ministers thanked the Director of the Permanent Representative of the Asian Development Bank of Georgia for the support provided by ADB and expressed hope that the cooperation will continue actively.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Finance Ekaterine Guntsadze, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Mzia Giorgobiani, representatives of the Ministries of Finance and Infrastructure, and the Asian Development Bank.
