Vasil Gedevanishvili, who is the Head of the National Environment Agency of Georgia, holds a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovakia, Shimatush Bushovsky, and the Head of Development Cooperation, Consul Zuzana Paloshova. During the meeting, both sides discussed various environmental-related projects being implemented in Georgia with the help of the Slovakia government.
It is to be noted that in the last decade with the collaboration of Slovak partners a number of projects have been implemented By the National Environment Agency of Georgia which have contributed significantly to strengthening the country’s water monitoring capabilities. The conversation also touched upon prospects for future cooperation between both countries.
It is also worth noting that the National Environment Agency is carrying out a very significant project called – “Installation and implementation of modern analytical methods for the detection of organic pollutants in accordance with European water directives”. This project is also being implemented by the Slovak University of Technology (STUBA).
The project aims to develop the capability of Georgian Environment’s agency staff to implement the requirements of the Water Framework Directive as well as training being carried out to implement modern analytical methods.
It is specifically to be mentioned that both countries have a history of strong and stable diplomatic relationships. Moreover, this year both countries also celebrated the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
As Gergoa is an aspiring candidate for membership in the European Union, Slovakia always supports the initiative of Gerioga for this EU membership.
Under this meeting the Georgian Side expressed their Gratitude towards Slovakia for the continued support of the implementation of environmental projects.
One of the major projects is water monitoring Projects as well. Notably the Georgian Government has taken many initiatives for the Protection of the environment of Georgia. Under these Initiatives, many areas of the country have been declared as protected areas.
Georgia side also said that the Growing threat of Global warming and climate change has forced the ministry to introduce many projects with the aim of Protecting the Flora and Fauna of the Country.
On the other hand, the Representatives of Slovakia stated that there would be no dearth of any kind of financial assistance. Moreover this Assissitanne to Georgia from Slovakia will continue in future as well.
