The Minister of Health of Georgia opened a conference held within the framework of the “Strengthening of Social Protection in Georgia” project.
Zurab Azarashvili spoke about the importance of reforming the social security system and noted that the introduction of sustainable and effective social security mechanisms of European standards is one of the agency’s priorities.
According to the Minister of Health, work in this direction is actively underway, for which he thanked the Western partners. The reform of social protection systems was initiated by the Government and Parliament of Georgia.
Its aim is to develop social policy and improve access to social assistance. The current issues of the reform and the future strategy were introduced to the conference participants by the Deputy Minister of Health, Tamar Barkalaia.
The Social Protection Reform Action Plan was presented at the conference, in the implementation of which Georgia’s European partners are actively assisting.
The project “Strengthening Social Security in Georgia” is implemented by “Expertise France” (AFD Group) and the Czech Development Agency, with the support of the European Union.
The conference was attended by the Deputy Head of Programs of the EU Delegation Catalin German, the Ambassador of France to Georgia Diego Colas, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Georgia Petr Mikiska, the Deputy Minister of Health Tamila Barkalaia.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Health, non-governmental organizations and experts in the field.
