Georgia: The Minister of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health, and Social Welfare of Georgia, Mikheil Sarjveladze, participated in the parallel event “Sepsis and Non-Communicable Diseases – The Hidden Link of Global Healthcare” held within the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly.
The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health, and Social Welfare of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on September 25, 2025. The Georgian Ministry also shared a small note about the event along with its photographs.
The event aims to showcase the relationship between sepsis and non-communicable diseases and to emphasize the need for integrated management. It was noted that sepsis is a common cause of non-infectious disease complications, and it is important to consider it in national strategies.
During his speech, Mikheil Sarjveladze pointed out the importance of the issue and noted that effective management, early detection, and prevention of sepsis are necessary, which requires inter-sectoral cooperation and global solidarity. He also spoke about Georgia’s achievements in improving access to treatment for non-communicable diseases, emphasizing that the country has increased access to chronic and oncology medical services and improved standards of quality medical services.
The event was opened by Sepsis Global Alliance Executive Director Mariam Jash. The World Health Organization, the Global Sepsis Alliance, and other international partners were co-chairs.
The Georgian Minister of Health is on an official visit to the USA. During the UN General Assembly, the Minister of Health took part in high-level meetings and panel discussions. Bilateral meetings were held with the ministers of health of Spain and Bulgaria. Met Tedros Adanom Gebreysus, Director General of the World Health Organization, Hans Kluge, Regional Director of Europe, as well as Health Ministers of Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Turkey.
