Lasha Khutsishvili, Finance Minister of the Republic of Georgia, announced that in 2024 the funding of healthcare programs would increase by more than 100 million GEL, and the amount of 1 billion 816 million GEL be spent on healthcare programmes. As compared to the previous version of the budget, this year it has been increased by more than 14 million GEL.
According to Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili the mentioned amount will be allocated to all municipalities across the country for the implementation of the delegated function of public health. Moreover, these funds will be transferred by the Ministry of Health to the relevant municipalities from 2024 instead of the Ministry of Finance as it was in practice earlier.
It is noteworthy that more than half of the money allocated for health care programs amounting to 1 billion 35 million GEL will be used to finance the universal health care program which includes:
• The chronic disease program of the country will be expanded and pensioners will be provided with the necessary medicines for all chronic diseases throughout the year under new provisions
• Funding of high-tech research for the early diagnosis of oncological diseases, which was always a big challenge, will now begin.
• At the same time at the expense of the economy as decided through the agreement with drug manufacturers, it will be possible to finance the full course of oncological treatment within the allocated limits
• Meanwhile, Children with an oncological diagnosis will continue to be treated abroad in future as well which will ensure access to a perfect course of treatment
From the budget allocation, an amount of 210 million GEL will been used for primary health care under the framework of which there will be a 10% increase in salaries of ambulance staff as well as a 100 GEL increase in salaries for village doctors and nurses.
It is worth mentioning that an amount of 87.5 million GEL has been allocated for rehabilitation and equipping medical institutions across the country. In order to develop the primary healthcare sector of Georgia next year, the rehabilitation works of up to 100 outpatient clinics will be carried out under the program.
Minster also said that the healthcare sector is a priority of His government. More programmes, schemes, and plans will be implemented in future to make the health sector capable of meeting the needs of Modern days.
As it is a well-known fact that the Health of the people of any country plays a significant role in the full-fledged development of the Country people appreciated the decision of the government to enhance the budget limit for the Health sector of the country.
