Georgia holds major CBRN response exercise in Mtskheta

In cooperation with the State Security Service of Georgia and the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), an inter-agency field-practical exercise on responding to chemical threats and the use of explosives during mass events - NEXUS Georgia 2026 was held in Mtskheta.

In cooperation with the State Security Service of Georgia and the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), an inter-agency field-practical exercise on responding to chemical threats and the use of explosives during mass events – NEXUS Georgia 2026 was held in Mtskheta.
The State Security Service of Georgia shared glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on September 8, 2026, Tuesday. The Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting along with the glimpses.
The event was attended by Lasha Maghradze, First Deputy Head of the State Security Service, Shalva Tadumadze, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Irakli Chichinadze, Deputy Commander of the Defense Forces of the Ministry of Defense, and other senior officials of the agencies involved in the project.
The purpose of the field-practical exercise was to increase the effectiveness of coordination between all relevant state agencies of Georgia and assess the national response capabilities to CBRN threats.
Representatives of relevant units of the State Security Service, the Ministries of Internal Affairs, Defense, and the Ministries of IDPs from the Occupied Territories of Georgia, Labor, Health, and Social Protection participated in the event.
During the exercise, the effectiveness of the coordinated activities of the relevant agencies responding to CBRN incidents at the scene and their ability to manage crowds were tested.
It is noteworthy that this is the first time that a simulation exercise of this scale has been conducted in georgia, which assesses the readiness of state agencies to respond to chemical and possible terrorist incidents in places of mass gatherings.
The State Security Service of Georgia and the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency are connected by many years of successful cooperation. DTRA provides significant support to the development and sustainability of the Georgian security sector.
