Under the leadership of SEOK President Leri Khabelov, an executive committee meeting was held in the National Olympic Committee of Georgia on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Wednesday.
Two main issues on the agenda were discussed at the meeting. Specifically: About the results of Georgian athletes at the XXV Winter Olympic Games (Milan-Cortina, February 6-22, 2026).
At the XXV Winter Olympic Games, the Georgian team in figure skating, the performances of athletes in team and individual disciplines were successful, and the silver medal was won, a historical event in Georgian winter sports. Highlighted Nino Tsiklauri’s 5th Olympic start, Nino is the first athlete in winter sports to compete for the fifth time at the Olympic Games.
It has been noted that the excellent sporting results shown by figure skaters at the Olympic Games and earlier European Championships in Milan, together with the high skill of athletes, the professionalism of coaches, the conscious involvement of medical staff is the result of the deliberate work of the National Figure Skating Federation of Georgia and in person of its President Mariam Giorgobiani, its president A flexible management and result oriented many years of activity Aftermath.
SEOK Agmaskom noted with special emphasis the support and help that the Georgian government and, personally, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze are showing to Georgian sports. Also, the visit of the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, to Milan as a guest of exceptionally high rank, meeting with Georgian athletes, and participation of our athletes at the Olympic Games was another clear confirmation of the country’s leadership’s interest and support towards sports. It is noteworthy that the successes achieved by figure skaters are largely due to the continued support and assistance of the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sport.
It is meaningful that from the day of its foundation, the National Olympic Committee of Georgia has had an exceptionally busy and fruitful relationship with the National Figure Skating Federation. It stood by it in implementing all initiatives and projects of the Federation, and the leadership of the Federation was always represented in the highest governing bodies of SEOK.
Considering the current situation, the principles of the Figure Skating Federation were justified. From now on, with the creation of two standard infrastructure centers in the country, it is necessary to engage children and adults in this sport, initially by inviting foreign specialists, care for the qualification of local coaches, a new systematic approach to preparing athletes for high-performance sports, and a strategic plan for 10-15 years.
SEOK Agmaskom welcomes the fact that the Ministry of Sport of Georgia, with participation of relevant national federations, experts, and specialists, is working on developing a strategic plan for the development of winter sports in the country and expressed its readiness to participate in its activities.
At the meeting of the Executive Committee, the members of the Executive Committee were provided with detailed information about the progress of preparations for the Georgian Youth Olympic Festival by Leri Khabelov, the President of SEOC, and the First Vice President, Elguja Berishvili, the Head of the Organizing Committee of the Georgian Olympic Festival.
