Georgia: The memory of the heroes who died for the unity of Georgia in 2008 was honored in Zestafoni Municipality on August 8, 2024.
In their respect and admiration, family members, government representatives, the Ministry of Defense, and society gathered at the memorial of Zaza Feradze, a Hero of the August War in Daba Shorapan.
The mayor of Zestafoni Municipality, Vasil Gvelesiani, deputy Malkhaz Shergelashvili, and the chairman of the city council, Vakhtang Gambashidze, with the municipality hall and the representatives of the city council decorated with flowers. Father Giorgi, the priest of Margveti Diocese, has paid a memorial service to commemorate the souls of those who died for the independence of Georgia.
“I bow my hat for the unity of Georgia, to the memory of the heroes who sacrificed for its freedom, including Zaza Feradze, a native of our municipality. His unparalleled heroism, a shining example of love for homeland and neighbor, is a beacon for us all,” said Vasil Gvelesiani.
Senior Sergeant Zaza Feradze was born on February 16, 1973, in Daba Shorapan. In July 2002, he enlisted in the Commando Battalion. In 2004, he was involved in Tskhinvali conflict events. In 2004-2005, he was on an international peace mission in the Republic of Iraq.
In July 2008, he was appointed as the head of a sniper group in the 42nd Light Infantry Battalion of the 4th Brigade and with the same subdivision took part in the 2008 Russia-Georgia war. Tragically, Zaza Feradze was killed by a sniper’s bullet when he bravely returned to the front line to save his wounded colleagues.
Senior Sergeant Zaza Feradze was posthumously awarded the 3rd-degree order of Vakhtang Gorgasli, a prestigious military honor in Georgia. In 2015, the Center for Early Combat Training was named after him, a testament to his bravery and dedication to his country.
