Georgia: The Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration Committee is actively working to ensure the implementation of the 11th task out of 12 tasks defined by the European Commission for Georgia.
The 11th task involves the preparation of a legislative initiative, as a result of which the use of practices established through the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights in the jurisprudence of Georgian courts will be encouraged and increased.
Regarding this issue, the chairman of the Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration Committee, Mikheil Sarjveladze, held a briefing.
“The committee actively started working on the mentioned task. For this purpose, a working group was created last week, which, apart from the members of the majority, includes 4 opposition MPs, representatives of relevant state institutions and non-governmental organizations. I would like to take advantage of this opportunity and thank those who declared their readiness to work and actually got involved in the process of working on a very important matter for the country,” said Mikheil Sarjveladze.
According to his information, the working group has already held an extended meeting with the public interested in the issue.
“At the meeting, ideas and initiatives were collected to fulfil the mentioned tasks. Based on this, the working group prepared the initial versions of the legislative initiative, which were already sent to the relevant interested parties. These working versions were also published on the website of the Parliament. Work on these projects will continue, as a result of which it will be possible to finish the work on the legislative initiative within the specified period and to, present it to the committee session, and then to initiate it. In the future, we will also ensure public awareness regarding the implementation of the above-mentioned plan”, Mikheil Sarjveladze noted.
