Georgia, Hungary deepen defense ties

Georgia: The Defense Minister Irakli Chikovani met General Gabor Borondi, Chief of the General Staff of the Hungarian Defense Forces, who is on an official visit to Georgia.

The minister thanked the Hungarian side for its unwavering support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and focused on the positive dynamics of cooperation between the countries. He emphasized the importance of the joint declaration of the strategic partnership between the two countries and the document of cooperation in the field of defense.

At the meeting held at the Ministry of Defense, the parties reviewed the directions envisaged by the bilateral plan signed between the defense authorities of Georgia and Hungary. The conversation also touched on the security environment in the region and in the world.

Before the meeting with the minister, the official ceremony of welcoming the Chief of General Staff of the Hungarian Defense Forces was held in the Defense Agency.

The Hungarian general is hosted by his colleague, Commander of the Georgian Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili. He thanked General Gabor Borondi for his visit and noted Hungary’s contribution to the transformation process of Georgia’s defense and the successful implementation of the SNGP.

At the meeting between Georgia and Hungary in the field of defense, issues of cooperation in military education, military training, and military medicine were discussed, and prospects were set.

General Gabor Borond, Chief of the General Staff of the Hungarian Defense Forces, is in Georgia on a two-day official visit. He honored the memory of the heroes who died in the battles for Georgian territorial integrity and decorated the heroes’ memorial with a crown. Hungarian guests were also present in Krtsanis, the NATO-Georgia Joint Center for Training and Evaluation (JTEC).
