It is to be specifically mentioned that the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture warns hunting enthusiasts that from March 1 the hunting of migratory birds is prohibited and urges them to strictly follow the terms established by law.
It is also to be added that to prevent illegal hunting employees of the department will continue to keep 24-hour enhanced control throughout the country.
Similarly in the case of hunting during the prohibited period the person violating the law will be punished under various legal provisions. According to the law the confiscation of seized objects and firearms will be there. At the same time in some cases possibly the accused will be deprived of the right to carry a firearm. In case of illegal acquisition of a bird the penalty will be added to the amount of damage to the environment. If the hunting has caused significant damage to the environment the issue of criminal liability against the person will be considered.
The head of the Department of Environmental Supervision Levan Jgharkava stated that “Fighting against poaching is one of the priorities of the department. Therefore our employees, across the country are protecting the environment 24 hours a day.
He also added to identify and prevent illegal hunting facts strict controls were implemented during the hunting season. As a result during the season 685 violations were found. The most 228 incidents were recorded in Imereti, 117- in Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti. In Mtskheta-Mtaneti – 95, in Kakheti – 74, in Shida Kartli – 46, in Guria – 45, in Lower Kartli – 23, in Adjara – 23, in Samtskhe-Javakheti – 17, in Racha-Lechkhumi – 7 in Lower Svaneti 10 facts of illegal hunting were revealed by department employees in the capital.
At the same time the four cases of the violations contain criminal offenses and the materials were sent to the appropriate authorities for further response. The department will continue strict control in the future and will respond accordingly to each violation.
