Inspectors of the Department of Environmental Supervision carry out daily control of emissions of vehicles on roads in four major cities of the country. The process of strengthening the capacities of the department in this direction is progressing step by step. Recently, the number of crews has increased, which is important to increase the efficiency of emissions control.
As a result, in October, there were 488 violations in Tbilisi, 113 in Batumi, 55 in Kutaisi, and 43 in Rustavi.
Out of 699 facts, 610 were committed by individuals, and in 89 cases, employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision fined legal entities.
It should be noted that 381 violations were committed by light cars, 296 by minibuses, 20 by trucks, and 2 by bus drivers/owners. Regarding annual statistics, 4497 violations have been reported in 10 months of 2025.
In order to improve the atmospheric air quality, in parallel with the control of visible emissions of vehicles, the department implements several measures. Department inspectors regularly monitor fuel quality at auto-gas stations to minimize the use of unconditioned fuel, which in turn significantly reduces the emission of harmful substances.
In addition, in order to prevent pollution from the industrial sector, the process of implementation of a continuous self-monitoring system for air pollution is actively underway; 36 of the largest enterprises have already installed the system. All of the measures listed contribute to minimizing air pollution as a complex.
