The foreign minister of the Republic of Georia Ilia Doriashvili is all set to address the United Nations human rights high-level segment in Geneva. The 55th session will be held from 26th February to 5th April 2024.
It is to be specifically mentioned that in this 55th session of the Human Rights Council will highlight environmental-related activities as well. It is to be added that on February 26, 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilia Dariashvili will attend the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council high-level segment and will address the public and also raise the issues of Georgia.
It was also noteworthy that the Minister will talk about the National Strategy of Human Rights Protection of Georgia for 2022-2030 and the efforts and steps taken by the Georgian side towards the protection of the rights of different groups of the population.
Special attention will be paid to the situation in occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region from the human rights and humanitarian perspective. The minister stated that the violation of human rights in this region is a serious problem and needs immediate international attention.
At the same time within the framework of his visit to Geneva the Minister of Foreign Affairs will hold meetings with the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and fellow ministers.
The 25th of February is regarded as the day of Russian occupation in Georgia. Just a day ago the whole country remembered the martyrs of the Russian occaion. The national flag of Georgia has been lowered in all the government buildings of the country. The flag of the Georgian parliament was also lowered up to half-mast.
United Nations Human Rights Commission is the international platform to discuss the issues of human rights violations at the international level.
