The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has warned the protestors to follow the law to exercise their right to protest. The ministry also said that any violent act would attract strict legal action from law enforcement agencies.
This warning was issued during the ongoing demonstration on Rustaveli Avenue and the Parliament Building. There were several calls from the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the organizers and participants of the demonstration to hold a peaceful protest.
Although the protest was held in legal forms and did not carry out violent actions some members of the protestors physically confronted the police officers and threw various blades in their direction The protestors used the pieces of rocks and bottles.
As a result of these unlawful acts of the protestors an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was injured, who was transferred to the Caucasus Medical Center. At the same time a car belonging to the ministry was damaged. The Ministry of Internal Affairs used a special means to disperse the mob and avoid physical confrontation .
As per the information shared so far by the ministry a total of eleven persons have been detained by law enforcers on an administrative basis for law violations.
The ministry repeatedly calls on the organizers and members of the protesters to ensure that the protest be expressed within the framework of the law. Each unlawful act will be followed by a legal response from law enforcement agencies.
On the other hand social media users expressed divided opinions. One section of the people supports the law enforcement agencies because they are doing their best to prevent any danger to the law and order situation in the country.
At the same there are groups of people who say that using forceful measures against the peaceful protestor is a violation of the right to protest. They criticized the law enforcement agencies to stop the voices of people who were protesting against the government’s wrong decision.
