Georgia, Kazakhstan discuss trade cooperation at Silk Road Forum

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nurlan Sauranbayev, who came to Georgia to participate in the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum.

Georgia: The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nurlan Sauranbayev, who came to Georgia to participate in the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on October 22, 2025, Wednesday. The Georgian Ministry also shared the information related to the discussions held at the meeting, along with the glimpses.

During the meeting, both ministers underlined the importance of enhancing regional connectivity and sustainable infrastructure development.

The Ministers discussed bilateral economic relations at the meeting. Special attention was paid to promoting additional freight flows in the middle of the corridor, the development of which is in the interests of both countries. The joint effort to further popularise the mentioned transport corridor and increase its competitiveness was emphasized.

The parties discussed coordinated cooperation between Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan Railways, aimed at activating rail transport between China and Europe.

The meeting also discussed the relationship in other areas of transport. Fruitful cooperation in the field of civil aviation was emphasized – in the period of January 2025 to September, the passenger train between Georgia and Kazakhstan increased by 10.4 percent compared to the previous year. Positive dynamics in the field of tourism were also emphasized.

At the meeting, the ministers talked about the importance of the format of bilateral dialogue – The Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation is an important platform for strengthening economic, trade, transport, and cultural relations between Georgia and Kazakhstan.

Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and Lasha Abashidze, Director General of Georgian Railways, attended the meeting.
