Georgia: Khatuna Zaldastanishvili visits Machakhela National Park

Anna Libergi Sweden’s Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Georgia Anna Libergi along with Khatuna Zaldastanishvili, Head of the Swedish Embassy’s Development Cooperation Environmental Program visited the Machakhela National Park.

On the occasion the guests were hosted by the Deputy Chairman of the Agency of Protected Territories Tamar Khakhishvili as well as the representatives of the administration.

It is to be specifically mentioned that both Guests visited Machakhela National Park’s Modern Visitor Center. At the same, both also got acquainted with the activities of Machakhela’s National Park in terms of protection and conservation of unique biodiversity and development of ecotourism. The Machakhela National Park, distinguished by its unique nature, is one of the popular protected areas in Georgia.

At the same time, this is noteworthy in the process of development of Machakhela National Park, together with the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture and the Agency of Protected Areas, donor organizations are actively involved for better results.

Additionally within the framework of the Swedish Agency for International Development Cooperation (Sida) the project namely “Save Nature – Georgia” is also being executed, it is planned to develop a management plan for Machakhela National Park. The management plan along with other things also includes identifying long-term goals and appropriate management approaches. It also needs to implement the measures required to achieve the desired results and that must me implemented within a stipulated time.

The visiting delegation was also apprised of the various schemes by the officials. The official and representative told the visiting delegation about schemes that are being executed by the Georgian government for the protection of the environment and biodiversity in the country.

On the other hand the Sweden delegation also said that the government of Sweden and SIDA(the Swedish Agency for International Development Cooperation) are ready to share the experience with the Georgian counterpart.
