Georgia: The Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze, took part in the event dedicated to the 104th anniversary of the establishment of the Technical University of Georgia.
The Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia shared the glimpses of the event on its official Facebook Page on January 16, 2026, Friday. The Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.
The minister addressed the attending community with a welcome speech. He congratulated the professors and students on the university’s founding date and wished them success in their future endeavors.
“Congratulations to everyone on this day – University rectorate, professor-teachers, students, and every employee. Also, congratulations to the graduates who, even in the most difficult times for Georgia, have left an indelible mark and represented our country with high professionalism with the education received in these walls,” said Givi Mikanadze.
He also noted, “Technical University, which has already entered the second century, is still the leading educational and scientific university of engineering education in Georgia.” The Rector of STU, academician David Gurgenidze, and President of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, academician Roin Metreveli, addressed the attending society.
Within the festive event, in the newly constructed square near the administrative building of STU, the monument of the distinguished Georgian scientist Giorgi Nikoladze was opened. Guests also took a look at the newly opened Straw Laboratory, where they learned about the university’s scientific and research infrastructure and modern technological capabilities.
It is important that lab-created materials are widely used in the world’s largest scientific centers – European Nuclear Research Organization (CERN), Japan High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), J-PARC, and American Farm Laboratory (FERMILAB) – in ongoing scientific experiments.
