A ceremonial event marking the establishment day of the State Security Service was held on August 1 to mark the occasion and recognize the service’s contribution to safeguarding the country’s national security.
The Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, Gela Geladze, President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, and Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili addressed the audience.
They thanked the service personnel for their special contribution to ensuring the country’s national security.
In his speech, the Head of the State Security Service, Gela Geladze, emphasized the historical significance of the establishment of the service and stated that this agency makes a great contribution to ensuring peace and security in Georgia, which creates a solid foundation for the democratic and sustainable development of the country.
According to him, the result of the correct, pragmatic policy of the government and the effective work of the State Security Service is that in recent years, all risks arising from destructive forces operating inside and outside the country have been successfully prevented, and today peace and security are ensured in the country.
During his speech, Gela Geladze thanked each employee of the State Security Service for their dignified and loyal service to the country.
He noted, “It is a great honor, and at the same time, a great responsibility, to stand at the forefront of public safety and to serve tirelessly in the noble job of keeping our country safe.” This agency has a highly professional team that performs its duties diligently and promotes the democratic development of our country by ensuring a safe environment.”

A minute of silence was observed at the event to honor the memory of the State Security Service officers who died heroically in the line of duty.
During the event, Gela Geladze awarded his employees with excellent medals and breast marks. For the first time this year, the National Award for State Security was awarded for high professionalism, conscientious performance of duty, and significant contribution to protecting the interests of public security.
