Georgia: Giorgi Khanishvili, First Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture got familiarized with the ongoing measures against Asian leprosy in western Georgia.
Giorgi Khanishvili together with the head of the National Food Agency Zurab Chekurashvili met with the staff of the Farosana Coordination Management Center and heard information about the current situation.
“The result of several years of struggle with Farosana is obvious – the difficulties have been overcome through the joint work of the state and farmers. Fighting measures will be carried out according to the plan this year as well. All technical means are mobilized to monitor, control and inform the pest. Events are held daily, 24 hours a day. The geographical area of Farosana distribution has not increased. “Consequently, control and control measures are still being carried out in the regions of western Georgia,” Giorgi Khanishvili said.
In order to determine the number of pests, monitoring was carried out in 731 homestead plots in 31 villages of the Guria and Samegrelo regions, which is a prerequisite for timely prevention of Farosana spread. At this stage, 18,526 pheromones (catchers) and a special station are located throughout the country.
At present, 4785.5 hectares have been cultivated using “cold spraying” technology.
The Coordination Management Center actively cooperates with local government officials. Meetings with beekeepers and fruit farmers are held on a regular basis.
