Tbilisi: The Georgian Ministry of Environment and Agriculture holds a coordination meeting with different stakeholders. The meeting aimed to discuss the European Commission’s recommendation on Candidate status to Georgia in the European Union.
It is to be specifically mentioned that In order to fulfil the recommendations of the European Commission report, the issues of coordination and elaboration of an action plan were discussed during this Coordination meeting of the Environment and Agriculture Ministry.
This meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili, along with Deputy Ministers Tengiz Nasaridze, Solomon Pavliashvili and Kakha Kakabadze and many other representatives of relevant services staff in the Ministry’s office.
Notably, the recommendation of the European Commission regarding granting Georgia EU candidate status is being viewed as the success of the Georgian government as well as the success of the Georgian people. Moreover, the meeting appreciated the work that the country has been doing for years for the grant of candidate status.
Speaking specifically, Minister Nino Tandilashvili stated that .” I am very sure that in the month of December, the European Council will make a positive decision regarding its expansion plans, and Georgia will be granted full-fledged candidate status in the European Union. This decision will be an important and historical event as well as comes with great responsibility. To implement the recommendations of the European Commission in letter and spirit and to make more progress, more aggressive effort will be needed. Georgia’s membership of the European Union is the next step, and the government is hopeful and sure that we will achieve this result in the short term”.
The First Deputy Minister also Stressed the progress and challenges reflected in the European Commission report and asked all stakeholders to come forward to overcome these challenges.
Moreover, Nino Tandilashvili noted further that, according to the report, the Republic of Georgia has made significant progress in implementing food safety standards and improving fishing, air protection and quality as per the standards of the European Union and other Western Countries.
Meanwhile, At the meeting, all the participants discussed the ways of developing an action plan and short-term measures to make the agricultural sector more productive and prosperous. It was resolved by the attendee that the meetings will continue intensively to get the desired results in future.
