Georgia: Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Mzia Giorgobiani and Head of the Cooperation Department of the European Union Representation in Georgia Sigrid Bretel visited EU-funded projects in Telavi and Akhmeta.

During the inspection, the leaders found that several areas were transformed with several things.

New direction signs were placed at more than 200 locations in Telavi, and QR codes were installed near the hiking trails.

Energy-efficient chairs with free Wi-Fi and phone chargers have been installed in Alak, which will provide more comfort for tourists in Telavi, initiatives aimed at stimulating tourism and offering new opportunities for local residents and businesses.

A new kindergarten for about 50 children is being built in Atskuri village of Akhmet municipality.



In the fortress town of Kvetera, located in the Khmet municipality, within the framework of the joint program of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the European Union, the construction of a 600-meter new road section, the construction of a visitor centre and the arrangement of shopping booths for the local population are being carried out.

In addition, parking and camping areas, water and electricity sources will be provided. The new infrastructure aims to stimulate tourism and offer new opportunities to the local population.

The European Union allocated a total of 54 million euros for the regional development of Georgia, of which 40.5 million euros are available within the framework of the Government’s Pilot Regions Integrated Development Program (PIRDP). With the implementation of this initiative, the decision-making process shifts from Tbilisi to the regional level.



Through this program, financial resources are made available directly to municipalities that choose to pilot initiatives to improve the opportunities and living conditions of the local population.
