Georgia: The employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture together with the National Forest Agency revealed facts of violation of law in the Kakheti and Mtskheta-Mtianeti regions.
This was done within the framework of their fight against illegal forest use. Notably, the fight against illegal forest use is the main priority of the National Forest Agency of Georgia as well as the Department of Environmental Supervision.
An unregistered saw was placed in the village Akhalsofeli of Saamqro, Kvarli municipality, by a resident in his working plot. Kakheti Forest Service employees have sealed the sawmill and moved to the workyard of Kvarli. The materials, for further response, were sent to the relevant investigative agency.
Also, in Tianeti municipality, on the territory of the state forest, 3 unauthorized pests have been detected. Illegally obtained goods of up to 10 cubic meters are also located in the area. An administrative violation decree has been drafted, and Sasheshe Merkan, for further realization, has been moved to Tianeti’s business yard.
According to the head of the National Forestry Agency, Kakha Tsertsvadze, it should be noted that the National Forest Agency is actively, practically, working 24 hours a day, to curb the illegal use of natural resources.
“It is important to note that monitoring is also carried out by modern technologies – video traps and drones,” added Kakha Tsertsvadze.
It is worth noting that the crews of the Department of Environmental Supervision also carry out continuous 24-hour patrolling throughout the country to prevent, detect, and suppress the facts of illegal forest use, hunting, fishing, and other environmental violations promptly. In addition, immediate response is given to each message received on the hotline (153) of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.
