Tbilisi: Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Kakha Kakabadze, together with the head of the National Forestry Agency Kakha Tsertsvadze, met with the heads of regional forest services to analyse the projects implemented by National Forestry Agency.
“Prevention, detection and elimination of illegal use of trees remains a top priority of the Ministry. By implementing effective state oversight, we will be able to manage forest resources to the standards that Sustainable Development Policy seeks. Relevant services of the Ministry and the Agency will continue to work with the approaches developed by the new Code and the corresponding action plan, which gives us substantial positive results,” Kakha Kakabadze said.
The meeting was about the summary analysis of projects implemented by the National Forestry Agency last year and a discussion of activities planned for 2023. Deforestation, improving forest sanitation, forest inventory and preparation of management plans remain among the main areas of the National Forest Agency’s work.
The head of the National Forestry Agency, Kakha Tsertsvadze, focused on the development of the recreational potential of forests and the development of ecotourism. As Kakha Tsertsvadze noted, since the adoption of the “New Forest Code”, plans for the development of forest ecotourism are underway, which will significantly contribute to creating additional opportunities for rural populations.
At the meeting, the issue of multipurpose forestry and sustainable wood procurement was also discussed. It is noteworthy that the development of infrastructure needed for the effective management of nuclear resources across the country has been ongoing since 2020. 39 “busy yards” are already set up in almost every region of the country. By the end of 2023, 17 additional “working yards” will be set up across the country.
