Nikoloz Samkharadze, who is the the chairman of the foreign relations committee held a vital meeting with the members of the delegation of the Swedish parliament in the OSCE parliamentary assembly.
He was accompanied by the head of the Georgian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.Swedish delegation includes Björn Soder and eight members of the Swedish parliament. It is to be specifically mentioned that the parties talked about the important role of the OSCE-parliamentary assembly and the cooperation of Georgia and Sweden with the assembly with each other.
Nikolaos Samkharadze, on this occasion, also spoke with his Swedish colleagues about the difficult situation in the occupied regions of Georgia and emphasized the growing threats from Russia to its citizens and property.
It is to be added that during the meeting, they discussed the issue of Georgia’s integration into the European Union and future plans related to the implementation of the nine steps presented by the European Commission.
Swedish delegation congratulates the Georgian side on the grant of candidate status to the European Union. They also said that this would make the position of Georgia more stronger for the full fledged membership in the European Union.
It is worth mentioning that the parties also talked about the internal political situation of Georgia, current events, polarisation and planned parliamentary elections.
Both countries have strong bilateral relations. In the year 2022, both countries have also celebrated the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
Both countries have an embassy in the capital city of the respective countries. Both sides on the occasion expressed their willingness to make more effort for the upgradation of mutual ties.
The Swedish Embassy in Georgia has a long and successful collaboration with the Sweden Alumni Network of the Republic of Georgia. The alumni network has implemented nearly 60 successful projects, many in collaboration with the embassy of Sweden.
