Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Ilia Begiashvili, and State Representative Ilia Jalaghania met with infrastructure project managers, heads of territorial units, and regional project coordinators to review the progress of ongoing projects and discuss priorities for 2027.
During the meeting, officials reviewed infrastructure projects being implemented across the country at various levels. They emphasized the importance of completing projects on time and maintaining high quality standards, noting that the impact of infrastructure development on residents’ lives extends well beyond the completion of construction.
The participants also discussed challenges related to construction, including the risks of compromising quality to reduce costs, the use of cheaper materials, tight deadlines, coordination between subcontractors and site managers, shortages of materials and labour, and administrative procedures. They explored possible solutions to address these issues and improve project implementation.
Planning for 2027 was another key topic of discussion. Officials considered how decisions made today could affect the timely completion of future infrastructure projects. They highlighted the importance of effective contract management, proper record keeping, municipal involvement, and clear communication to ensure that projects remain on schedule from the outset.
Deputies Avtandil Chrikishvili and Giorgi Kochiashvili, Head of the Regional Project Coordination Service Vakhtang Butshrikidze, and representatives of local government also participated in the meeting.
The involvement of local authorities was highlighted as particularly important, as they have a detailed understanding of the needs and challenges facing their respective regions. Their local knowledge can help identify infrastructure problems early and support more effective planning and implementation.
Officials also emphasized that regional development requires close cooperation and shared accountability between central and local governments.
