Georgia: Georgian Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia, together with the State Representative of Kvemo Kartli Giorgi Dokhturishvili, visited Marneuli to get familiarised with the results of the carried out and ongoing works on the reclamation facilities and met with the local population.
As a result of large-scale restoration works carried out by LLC “Georgia Melioration”, in the village of Shaumiani, after a 30-year pause, the irrigation system has been activated. The people of Shaumiani and Khikhani will use irrigation water for the first time in three decades.
“Restoration and rehabilitation of reclamation infrastructure are very important. We carry out large-scale projects in this direction, thus enabling farmers to produce quality, high-value products. We have fully restored irrigation infrastructure in Arneuli Municipality, for which several million GEL has been invested. After 30 years, for the first time this year, we released water. More than a thousand hectares of land will be provided with water”, – Otar Shamugia said.
The Minister, at a meeting with the local population, noted that in the village of Partskhisi, as a result of the irrigation processes developed due to heavy rainfall, the repair of the damaged pipeline on the TBC-Kumisi irrigation system is being intensively underway, and watering supply will be restored in the near future.
“We inspected the ongoing works in Tetritskaro municipality. Due to landslides, the pipeline is out of order. The reclamation company carries out large-scale works on its own. Everything is being done to restore the system very soon – equipment and manpower are also mobilized. “All the conditions are created to provide irrigation water to the population very soon,” said the Minister of Environment and Agriculture.
“Melioration of Georgia”, taking into account the recommendation of geologists, is carrying out restoration work intensively. This irrigation system provides water supply to approximately 3500 hectares of agricultural land in 17 villages of the Kvemo Kartli region.
