Georgia: Otar Shamugia meets Lithuania’s delegation

Otar Shamugia, the Georgian minister of environment protection and agriculture met with the delegation of the Republic of Lithuania and discussed many bilateral issues.

Otar Shamugia, the Georgian minister of environment protection and agriculture met with the delegation of the Republic of Lithuania. The minister discussed the agriculture sector and other issues of bilateral cooperation between both countries.

During the bilateral meeting both sides delved into the details of their respective agriculture policies. They further discussed the possibility of cooperation between both countries to boost the productivity of the agriculture sector.

At the same time Otar Shamugia thanked the representatives of the Lithuanian legislative body for their support of Georgia on the road to European integration. He underlined that the close partnership cooperation of the two countries has special importance for cordial relations in the future as well.

Addressing the delegation Otar Shamugia noted “At the end of last year our country received the status of EU (European Union) candidate which was the result of a series of reforms. Today we continue with more intensity in this process to make the country a full member of the European Union. Support of our friends countries like Lithuania in this way is especially important for us.”

On the other hand according to Viktora Prankietis, who is the Chairman of the Committee of Agrarian Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania “ Georgia and Lithuania have the same historical past so Lithuania’s experience will be particularly interesting for Georgia on the way to join the European Union”.

“Membership in the European Union is not a goal that you achieve and everything ends here; it is a continuous process to achieve overall development . I believe that we will be together in the big family of the European Union and will work closely to improve our countries. We are here to share our experiences listen to you, and support you on your journey to the EU full-fledged membership,” Viktora Prankietis added.

It should be noted that Georgia and Lithuania are strategic partners in the agro-food export industry as well.
