Georgia: The members of the permanent delegation of the Parliament to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly took part in the 103rd Rose-Roth seminar held in Helsinki.
The permanent delegation of the Parliament of Georgia was represented in the seminar of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly with the participation of Vladimir Chachibaya, Teona Akubardia and Davit Bakradze.
The seminar discussed such issues as Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the decisions of the NATO Madrid Summit and the role of NATO in ensuring the security and peace of the Alliance and its partners, the contribution of Finland and Sweden to strengthening the security of the North and the Baltic, Finland’s total defence and Russia’s hybrid threats, maritime security and Impact of climate change.
During the event, it was repeatedly mentioned that it was Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine that led to the decision of Finland and Sweden to join NATO and change their neutral status.
It was noted that the Alliance would become stronger and a guarantor of security not only in the Baltic region but also in the Far North.
The President of Finland, the Minister of Defense and other officials emphasized that Finland will continue to increase and strengthen its defence capabilities, including in the direction of military procurement.
In the framework of the discussion, the topic of Russia was also discussed, where it was noted that the economic and political pressure on Moscow should be continued by various methods, such as economic, political and personal sanctions. It should be analyzed that the West is entering into a long-term confrontation with Russia, since changing the current leadership of Russia will not change anything.
During the assessment of the Madrid summit of NATO, it was said that for the first time since the end of the Cold War, Russia is mentioned as an adversary in NATO’s security concept, and the Alliance’s open door policy is irreversible despite the threat of Russia, using the examples of Finland and Sweden.
It was emphasized that the door of the Alliance is open and the influence of non-NATO members on the enlargement processes is limited. Also, it was said that there are very few reasons why Georgia and Ukraine should not be members of the Alliance. All this is an indication that the Alliance’s open door policy is alive and well.
On the last day of the seminar, the members of the delegation visited one of the Finnish military bases, where they got acquainted with the Finnish military structure and the mandatory military conscription system in the country.
