Georgia: Pilots, rescuers, medics died in helicopter crash to be buried with military honours

The Ministry highlighted in a statement issued on Monday that the civil funeral would take place in the Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi, and the pilots of the border police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs along with the rescuers of the emergency management service would be provided with last goodbyes with complete military honours.

The statement of the Ministry read that the civil funeral of the pilots, rescuers and medics who lost their lives because of the crash of the border police helicopter of the Ministry of Internal Affairs alongside Gudauri will take place in the Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi. A funeral service will be conducted on August 2, Tuesday, from 11 am to 2 pm.

On Friday, July 29, the helicopter that was on a rescue operation in lost its control and crashed in a ravine. The aircraft had onboard rescuers of the Emergency Management Service as well as first aid responders who were called upon to help paragliders who had ended up in the ravine earlier.

There were about four crew members onboard the helicopter, along with two rescuers from the emergency management service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as well as two medics from the emergency coordination and emergency assistance centre of the Ministry of Health of Georgia.

An investigation to find the causes of violation of air transport traffic rules are being carried out under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

On Saturday, July 30, foreign dignitaries and embassies expressed their condolences over the demise of the crew members, rescuers and first aid responders onboard the border police helicopter in Georgia.
