The Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze, and the Regional Development Minister Kakhaber Guledan held a working meeting on July 9, 2025. At the meeting, they discussed issues related to the development of the infrastructure of schools.

The meeting held in the Tbilisi City Council was attended by Zurab Abashidze, Vice Mayor of the capital, Giorgi Tkemaladze, and representatives of local municipalities.
Participants of the meeting discussed the delegation of powers from the SSP Agency for Education and Scientific Infrastructure Development to local municipalities regarding the partial rehabilitation of schools to improve educational infrastructure.
As Givi Mikanadze said, during the meeting representatives of local municipalities got acquainted with procedures, which are especially important for continuing the process of rehabilitation of schools throughout Georgia.
Givi Mikanadze stated, “Our goal is that the processes related to upgrading school infrastructure and eliminating urgent needs continue with the same schedule, regime, and quality as planned and ongoing.”
He noted that in the process of transferring, if there were no defects, they set specific tasks and plans. This will be an important step towards decentralization – by assigning local authorities certain powers and more responsibilities.
“In terms of promoting the development of educational infrastructure, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth is and will be in permanent coordination with the Ministry of Regional Development, as well as with the City Hall of Tbilisi and the representatives of regional municipalities,” he added.
It should be noted that from September 1, 2025, the authority of the Ministry of Education Science and Youth of Georgia’s Ministry of Education, Science and Youth will be distributed to the respective ministries.
