Tbilisi: Georgian Agriculture Minister, Otar Shamugia publicized that the Georgian government has been discussing the steps for the promotion of large entrepreneurs, and with the decision taken, in the preferential agro credit project, they can use a preferential agro-loan for nut production and care.
Shamugia recently launched a new program of nut production for the farmers in the village of Yev, Guria. “Our goal is to have a better nut crop next year, both in quantity and quality”, stated Shamugia. The Minister also talked about the programs implemented for the development of agriculture in the last ten years and noted that promoting farmers is a priority of the government.
The government prioritizes the support to farmers, the introduction of new modern technologies, provide more knowledge, making technology and financial resources accessible.” All of this has specific consequences.Â
“In the recent years, we have seen a significant increase in production, and exports, and this trend continues. Countrywide Economic Growth – In the past two years, we have seen double-digit economic growth, allowing us to attract additional resources from the budget to implement programs that support farmers and entrepreneurs; Wars will also be adjusted to the needs. This is exactly what the nut production support program is”,– Otar Shamugia said.
 At the meeting, the Minister also spoke about the state program for the fight against Asian malaria and noted that the government allocated significant funding – for the fight against the pest, next year, about 30 million GEL will be spent.
 “We export more than 70% of nuts to the EU market. There are more than 100 companies that are exporting. More than 22 nut dryers and processing plants have been created under the state programs. Therefore, there is no point in talking about any monopoly, which, unfortunately, we hear far too often. Of course, there are factors that affect the price of nuts.
These factors include, firstlyquality; also,there are circumstances behind the export market demand for nuts; this year, nut price was low due to various factors. “It is from here that we have decided to assist you to have more opportunities to improve crop quality and improve revenue,” said Otar Shamugia.
