The head of the National Forest Agency, Besik Amiranashvili, introduced the main directions of the reform in the forest sector to the State Commissioner of Shida Kartli, Simon Guledan, and the representatives of the local self-government.

The main goal of the forest reform planned by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, along with strengthening forest monitoring and control, is to improve forest protection and forest use practices.
At the working meeting, Carlo Amirgulashvili, the head of the Ministry’s Forest Policy Department, spoke about the activities planned within the framework of the reform. It was noted that the function of physical protection for the National Forest Agency is being restored.
The addition of 401 forest rangers is being considered, reducing the protected area per ranger from 10-15 thousand hectares to an average of 2,000 hectares.
