Georgia: The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged 77 people with “legal theft”, membership in a “thieves’ underworld”, support for the activities of a “thieves’ underworld”, and appeal to a “thieves’ underworld”.
The Georgia Prosecution Service shared the details of this heinous crime through its official Facebook Page on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. It is worth noting that the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted an in-depth investigation into this case.
The investigation conducted by Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs revealed that members of the “thieves’ underworld”, together with persons accused of supporting the activities of the “thieves’ underworld”, both on the instructions of “thieves’ underworld” abroad and independently, based on the appeal of the disputing parties, systematically organized “thieves’ underworld” and discussed various types of disputes between the parties.
Law enforcement officers detained 72 people, and 5 people were charged in absentia and in a penitentiary institution.
The defendants were charged under Article 223 Prima, Part 1 (membership of a “thieves’ underworld”), Article 223 Prima, Part 2 (legal theft”), Article 223 Secunda, Part 1 (participation in a “thieves’ gathering”), Article 223 Quarta, Part 1 (appeal to a thief in law/member of a “thieves’ underworld”), Article 223 Tertia, Part 2 (support for the activities of a “thieves’ underworld”) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for up to 15 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.
The Prosecutor’s Office will submit a motion to the court within the time limit established by law, requesting that the court use imprisonment as a preventive measure for the defendants.
