Georgia: Prosecutor’s Office charges two foreigners for drug storage

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged 2 foreign citizens with the illegal acquisition, storage, and import of a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs and a large amount of psychotropic substances into Georgia.

The Georgian Prosecution Service shared the details of this heinous crime through its official Facebook Page on April 9, 2026, Thursday. The Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted an in-depth investigation into this case. 

Cause of charges

An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia established that one of the defendants illegally acquired and stored 449 pills containing the narcotic drugTilidineabroad, which he illegally imported into Georgia through the Batumi port on April 5, 2026.

The second defendant also illegally acquired and stored a particularly large amount of the narcotic drugCocaineand a large amount of the psychotropic substancePregabalinin Georgia through the Sarpi border checkpoint in the Khelvachauri district on April 5.

Criminal charges were laid against the suspect

The detainees were charged under Article 260, Part 3, Subparagrapha”, Article 262, Part 4, Subparagrapha(Purchase, storage and illegal import of narcotic drugs in a particularly large amount) and Article 261, Part 2, Subparagrapha”, Article 263, Part 1 (Purchase, storage and illegal import of psychotropic substances in a large amount) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

Based on the prosecutor’s motion, the court has already imposed imprisonment on the defendants as a preventive measure.

Notably, there is huge public support for the law enforcement agency for these drives to make the country drug-free. The Georgian prosecutor’s office is pursuing a strict criminal policy against drug dealers, which it will continue to do in the future.
