After an initiative taken by the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to support Ukraine, around 100 tons of humanitarian aid packages has been collected all over Georgia to assist the Ukrainian people.
The packages which are collected throughout Georgia are set to be dispatched to the country on the backdrop of Russia’s invasion.
The Deputy Head of the Regional Relations Department of the Government of Georgia, Merab Gamkrelidze, stated that the humanitarian cargo to assist Ukrainians had been collected all over the country with involvement from municipalities.Â
Moreover, the aid package includes items such as first aid kits, medicines, hygiene items, baby food, and other products.
According to the statement by the authorities, the civil sector was also vigorously involved in collecting the items. However, the humanitarian aid will be sent to Ukraine tomorrow, but the campaign to help the country will still continue.
After anxious days and nights, thousands of people are making their way back home from war-torn Ukraine to remain safe.
Furthermore, many corporates, associations, foundations, individuals and NGO’s from several countries are coming forward to stand in solidarity with Ukraine during the tough time that the country is facing currently.
Earlier in March, the Business Association of Georgia (BAG), which brings together hundreds of entrepreneurial groups around the country, donated 100,000 GEL ($31,000/€28,000) to Ukraine through Georgia’s Red Cross Society to express solidarity with the country.
The nation has also provided aid worth 1 million GEL ($315,000/€279,000) to Ukraine, with the Georgian Post also informing it would deliver humanitarian parcels to Ukrainian citizens free of cost.
Russia started its military operation in Ukraine in February 24 after President Putin announced the recognition of the independence of the Ukrainian territories of Donetsk and Luhansk on February 21.
