The Georgian public Defender Levan Loseliani met with Dider Trebucq today. Didier Trebucq is the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Georgia.
Didier Trebucq while serving as the Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in Georgia, Didie Tgebuki is also a Senior Advisor of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Vladimir Shkolnikov.
Both Georgian officials discussed multiple issues. Moreover the human rights situation in Georgia was discussed at the meeting. Other issues discussed at the meeting include the implementation of anti-discrimination mechanisms and the situation of children, women, and persons with disabilities.
The Public Defender of Georgia highlighted the statistics of femicide cases and noted that preventive measures against the homicide of women need to be strengthened to prevent the commission of the crime across the country. After the due discussion with all the stakeholders they also discussed the legal measures that can be implemented in this direction.
Similarly the representatives from both sides also discussed the needs, modernization and security challenges of the population living near the occupation line. They also remembered the sacrifices of those who laid their lives for the protection of the nation’s independence, sovereignty, and integrity.
They are the people who lost their lives in the armed conflicts with the forces of the Russian Federation in the war of 2008. Notably many events were held in different parts of the country.
The Prime Minister along with other government representatives visited the martyr’s memorial with floral wreaths and paid them Tribute as well. The Prime Minister while speaking on the 2008 armed conflict blamed the opposition party the United National Movement for the escalation.
He also assured that the government of Georgia is committed to uplifting the standard of living of people living in these areas. The public defender Levan Ioseliani emphasized the long-standing relationship between institutions and discussed plans for future cooperation for the peace of the country and region.
