Georgia: Tbilisi City Hall, Environmental Protection Service, has started constructing a two-hectare recreational space in Varketili settlement, near Khomleli and Abashvili streets.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze got familiarised with the current works together with Deputy Mayor Andria Basilaia.
“We have started another project in the Samgori district. Specifically, this is the area around Abashvili Street, where recreational space will be arranged. Within the framework of this project, two hectares of land will be completely rehabilitated – with trees, bicycle lanes, and attractions for children. Also, a fountain will be arranged; two playgrounds will be rehabilitated – one for football and the other for basketball. Outdoor lighting and irrigation systems will be installed. Everything will be done the way we feel about recreational spaces. I am sure the locals will be very pleased – young people, little ones who will have adequate space for rest and fun. The main thing is to take care of the mentioned space and protect it from vandalism. We think that the works will be completed by the new year,” said Kakha Kaladze.
It is planned to renovate the sidewalks, place park equipment, arrange an outdoor lighting system, playgrounds, video surveillance system and installation of rest pavilions. The area will be green – different species of trees and plants will be planted, grass will be sown, and an irrigation system will be arranged.
As part of the works, the existing mini football field will be rehabilitated, and, in addition, a basketball court will be. The cost of the project is two million GEL.
