Georgia: The main part of the works envisaged for the first stage of the rehabilitation of Queen Ketevan Avenue has already been completed, and the rehabilitation works for the next stage have started.

The Mayor of the capital Kakha Kaladze got instructed on the current works together with the deputies, Irakli Bendeliani and Andria Basilaia. According to the Tbilisi Mayor, the second stage of rehabilitation works will be completed by September.

“The first stage of works on Queen Ketevan Avenue has been completed. The road from Avlabari metro station to Telavi Street was blocked, and underground communications were being changed. At this point, everything has changed: the water, gas, and drainage system has been arranged, and the forthcoming streets are connected to the drainage; also, sidewalks have been prepared so that the outdoor lighting lines are placed underground. At the same time, planting works are underway. This concrete section is already arranged in the lower layers, and it is possible to move freely by car. We have already started the rehabilitation works of the second section, due to which the road section from Telavi Street to Lech Kaczynski Street is blocked. A similar type of work will be carried out here – the underground communications will be completely changed, and everything will be done at the highest level. We think that the second phase of the works will be completed by the end of August-September, and the road infrastructure will be arranged in the lower layers. In the near future, we will start the renovation of Avlabari Square. “At the same time, the rehabilitation of the Avlabari metro station will start,” Kakha Kaladze said.

At the moment, traffic is open on the road from Avlabari Square to Telavi Street. In this section, the underground communication network was completely changed. In particular, water supply, sewerage and gas supply systems. Also, a drainage network was arranged. The lower layers of the asphalt pavement are paved on the carriageway. Diseased trees were cut down in the area, and Parnavaz Square rehabilitation works were completed.

Sidewalks and an outdoor lighting network are being arranged in the area, and new waiting rooms for underground bins and public transport are being installed. Also, landscaping works will continue in the area, which envisages planting trees on the avenue and its adjacent slopes.

As for the second stage of the work, which has already started, the rehabilitation area includes the road section from Telavi Street to Lech Kaczynski Street, where, similarly, fundamental rehabilitation works will be carried out.

Nikoloz Elisashvili, the governor of Isani district, Giga Gigashvili, the head of the city environmental service and Kakha Labuchidze, the deputy of the City Council, were present on the spot together with the Mayor of the Tbilisi.
