Georgia: The presentation of the first edition (newspaper “Iveria”, 1886) was held in the exhibition hall of the National Library of Georgia on Monday, September 29, 2025.
The National Library of Georgia shared the glimpses of the presentation on its Official Facebook Page on Monday, September 29, 2025. A small note of information about the event was also posted along with its glimpses.
The event was opened by the director of the National Library, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia. Minister of Culture of Georgia, Tinatin Rukhadze, project coordinator, employee of the National Library, Nodar Dugladze, addressed the society.
The event was attended by members of the Parliament of Georgia and representatives of other organizations. The publication is a collection of 1886 issues of the newspaper “Iveria”, published by Ilia Chavchavadze, which has been fully restored, digitized, and printed in the size and form of the original.
The project “Gigantic Books” continues, and within it, it is planned to print “gigantic” copies of Georgian periodical editions of the 19th and early 20th centuries. On one hand, it aims to save the maternity shelters in the library, and on the other hand, to increase and facilitate access to unique materials.
The publication has already been sent to the libraries of Zugdidi and Kutaisi universities. Each copy of “Iveria” was handed over to representatives of Kutaisi, Khashuri, Ozurgeti, and Telavi libraries.
“Iveria,” edited by Ilia Chavchavadze, got a new life after 139 years. The event, attended by representatives of government, parliament, society, as well as regional libraries, was dedicated to the presentation of this new edition.
“I am grateful to Foundation ‘Kartu’ for financing this big and much-needed project. Thanks to all the employees of the project who contributed to the publication of this “giant book. “This book is not only a reminder of the past, but also an inspiration for the future,” said Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, Director of the National Library.
