Georgia: The Employees of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture have revealed 7 facts of illegal logging in Imereti, Adjara, and Samtskhe-Javakheti within the framework of the fight against illegal forest usage.
The Environmental Supervision Department of Georgia shared the details about this information on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. The Department also shared some glimpses of the products along with their details.
According to the details shared by the Environment Department, it should be noted that in the village of Khoni municipality, a citizen cut down 3 root-type trees and plants without permission. And in Kharagauli municipality, 13 units of round trees (mori) made from illegally obtained birch and tabli trees are sealed.
In the municipalities of Kobuleti, Shuakhevi, and Khulo, citizens prepared 16 units of mori from illegally obtained wood plants. In the Borjomi municipality, facts of illegal cutting of beech trees and plants have been revealed. A total of 11 units of unmarked round trees were removed.
The Employees of the regional authorities of the Environmental Supervision Department prepared appropriate documentation on each violation and reacted accordingly.
Illegal logging is a serious problem in Georgia, as it threatens the biodiversity, carbon storage, water purification, and livelihood benefits of the forest ecosystems. In addition, it should also be noted that the illegally obtained trees were cut down. Relevant documentation has been made against lawbreakers.
