Georgia reviews manufacturer duties on waste management

Georgia: The Committee of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia within the framework of the working group working with the business sector, held a meeting with representatives of the manufacturers’ expanded obligations.

The Committee on Environment and Natural Resources of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook page on July 9, 2025, Wednesday. The committee also shared some information related to the meeting along with its photographs.

According to the information shared by the Committee, it should be noted that the discussion likely centered on how manufacturers can better meet their responsibilities in protecting the environment and managing natural resources. 

At the working meeting, the organizations of the manufacturer’s extended liability presented presentations, in which the results of fulfilling these obligations were discussed and the measures to support specific waste treatment.

The discussion also emphasized the need for better collaboration between government bodies and manufacturers to develop sustainable waste management systems. Participants proposed policy updates, incentives for eco-friendly practices, and increased transparency in monitoring waste treatment processes across sectors.

Notably, the participants of the meeting also heard the report of the Department of Environmental Supervision on the topic: “Status of supervision on the implementation of the manufacturer’s expanded obligation request”.

Maya Bitadze, Chairman of the Committee for Protection of the Environment and Natural Resources and the head of the working group, said after the meeting, that she has identified a number of issues, which require coordinated work, so that effective steps can be taken to promote specific waste treatment in the future.
