Georgia: The Georgian Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili and Chairman of the National Wine Agency of Georgia Levan Mekhuzla met with representatives of wine and alcoholic beverages companies. The meeting was held to discuss the quality rules for wine grape havest in 2025. This fruitful meeting on June 4, 2025, Wednesday.
The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia shared the snippets of the meeting on its official Facebook page. According to the information shared by the Environment Ministry, it was noted that it was a very productive meeting, which solved various problems.
Notably, the Georgian Agricultural Minister spoke about the importance of the wine-vineyard field in Georgia, the current present, and prospects at the meeting. The minister focused his attention on organizing the harvest of 2025.
According to him, the winemakers will be able to organize the harvest only if they work together with the Environment Ministry. He sated that they have to be prepared from the very beginning so that quality grapes can be properly valued. “Joint involvement of the state and the private sector in the organization is especially important,” added Minister David Songhulashvili.
The conversation touched upon the quality of grapes produced under the leadership of the Agricultural Ministry. According to Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency, the state has a different approach this year. He also mentioned that the Agency will not accept quality and low-quality grapes at the same price.
He demanded the best quality grapes at a good price to produce the best quality wine. The Chairman also added that if the grapes are of low quality, their prices should be less accordingly.
The conversation was about the news – during the 2025 harvest season, the counting of the crops will be done through electronic equators. All companies that buy grapes from vineyards are required to have an electronic pruner that will be plugged into the unified electronic database of harvesting.
Furthermore, in this case, the number of grapes purchased by the company will automatically be affected. The use of electronic equations will make the computation of data easier and more accurate. This will be the best method for distributing best quality grapes to the wine producing companies.
