Georgia signs two agreements with Asian Development Bank

Tbilisi: The Government of Georgia will receive an amount of 45 million euros from the Asian Development Bank. The Georgian Government will sign two loan agreements with the Asian Development Bank on November 17, 2023. This loan amount is meant to be utilised for the implementation of climate-friendly irrigation practices.

Tbilisi: The Government of Georgia will receive an amount of 45 million euros from the Asian Development Bank. The Georgian Government will sign two loan agreements with the Asian Development Bank on November 17, 2023. This loan amount is meant to be utilised for the implementation of climate-friendly irrigation practices.

The loan agreement was signed by the Finance Minister of the Georgai, Asian Development Bank director of Permanent representation of Georgia Lesile Bearman.

This agreement signing ceremony was also attended by Ekaterine Guntsadze, the deputy minister of finance of Georgia. Nino Tandilashvili, the first deputy minister of the environment and Agriculture, was also present on this occasion.

The main project that will be financed through this aid will be the climate-sustainable irrigation sector, which will help to boost and strengthen the agriculture sector in the eastern part of Georgia. Projects like the left highway canal of Lower Samgori and the related irrigation system in the Kakheti region will also be covered under the provision of this assistance.

It is to be specifically mentioned that irrigation sector development projects include specific irrigation policies that will benefit all the stakeholders, be they farmers or employers of agri-related activities. In the present scenario, climate change has affected all sectors, including agriculture as well. environment and other scientists are expressing concern over climate change and its negative effects on the environment.
Notably, sustainable irrigation practices are the best way to mitigate the negative effect of climate change on agriculture.

In the past time, the Environmental Protection and Agricultural Ministry have taken a number of measures in this direction. Both sides on this occasion also committed themself to the latest technology sharing and sharing of the expertise.

The agriculture minister also expressed hopes that the joint initiative of both sides can bring a dramatic change in the field of the agriculture sector of Georgia.
