The event “Children’s Rights and the Environment” was held at Grigol Robakidze University, 26th General Comment of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili.
Solomon Pavliashvili introduced the students to the goals of environmentally sustainable development and focused on global challenges.
“In order to achieve the goals of sustainable development, it is important to interest the next generation in environmental issues; Importantly, they participated in conferences dedicated to the protection of children’s rights and the environment. We hope that many students will continue to study in the field of environment. To achieve the set goal, our country needs many professionals in this field,” – said Solomon Pavliashvili.
The event noted that it is important for States parties to the Convention on the Rights of the Child to take all appropriate legislative, administrative and other measures to overcome global environmental challenges and to create a healthy environment for children; In particular, attention should be paid to the problems caused by climate change.
The event was attended by Mikiko Otan, Chairman of the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of the Child, Deputy Director of the United Nations International Fund for Children, Europe and Central Asia, Philippe Kory, Protection of Children’s Rights Member of the WHO Committee Sopo Kiladze, President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Merab Turava and Chairman of the Committee on the Rights of the Child Philip Jaffi.
