Georgia: Minister of State for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Tea Akhvlediani with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, representatives of the Executive and Legislative Government, during the 2008 Russian-Georgian War. The memory of the dead soldiers was honoured at the cemetery of the Mukhatgverdi brothers.

The Minister of State spoke to the parents, and family members of the fallen heroes and once again expressed his sympathy and emphasized the courage of the heroes who died in the war in protecting the statehood and dignity of Georgia.

Tea Akhvlediani honoured the heroes who died in the August 2008 war in Gori as well. The Minister of State crowned the Memorial of Heroes of Gori and, together with local government representatives and the Metropolitan of Gori and Athens – Bishop Andria, commemorated the souls of the dead. Attended, by the way.

The Minister of State Tea Akhvlediani stated:

“The contribution of the heroes of the August War between Russia and Georgia is immensely important in protecting Georgia’s statehood, its independence and dignity, who sacrificed their lives. We remember them every day. In these tragic days of Georgia’s recent history, we, along with the whole of Georgia, honour their memory. I sympathize with the families of each killed citizen, fighters and civilians of Georgia who are feeling immeasurable pain due to the loss of a loved one. Also, our country and the people of Georgia still have to, unfortunately, deal with the severe consequences of the occupation carried out by Russian military aggression 14 years ago, which is the greatest challenge for our country today. And the Georgian government continues to carry out a peace policy, despite the difficult security situation in the region and even in conditions when we have limited access to occupied territories. I would like to express my gratitude to our strategic partners and the international community for their support and firm support for Georgia, whose continuation along with our peace efforts is of great importance For the good of our people, especially the people affected by conflict, for the protection of their rights, for the reconciliation of our divided communities and for our ultimate goal to coexist peacefully as one, In a strong and European state.”
