The completion of the Black Sea transmission cable project in July 2024 has confirmed its technical and economic feasibility. By 2030, it is planned to complete the Black Sea underwater transmission cable project, which will directly ensure the export of electricity from Georgia to European countries.
It was also written in the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia’s recent Facebook post. The post states, “In July 2024 the study of the Black Sea transmission cable project was completed, which confirmed that the project is technically-economically feasible. This project will allow Georgia to implement direct export of electricity to European countries. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2030.”
The post says that this project will allow the country to increase its energy exports and donate to the region’s energy security as it links Georgia’s energy resources with European markets.
The post also states, “Acquisition of renewable energy resources will continue through supporting schemes implemented by the Government of Georgia; The legal framework for regulating the operations of search-search and procurement of carbon (oil and gas) will be developed,” which means the Georgian government is also working on this project.
The government is also chasing the purchase of renewable energy resources through various support schemes. All these actions aim to encourage investment in sustainable energy options and promote the organization of a greener economy.
Lastly, the ministry’s post said that the gasification and electrification of villages without gas and electricity will continue in different regions of Georgia, and in the next 4 years, gasification works will be carried out in more than 600 populated areas and various plans and projects related to these will be implemented in the country.”
According to the studies of the Black Sea transmission cable project, it is also forecasted that by 2028 it will be available to about 95 percent of the population of Georgia.
These initiatives will help Georgia in upgrading its energy resources and supporting its renewable energy. As the nation progresses with these projects, it is predicted that it will soon appear as a significant player in the regional energy market.
