Georgia: Within the summation event of the “Debate for Better Education” project of the Georgian Institute of Debate and Education (GIDE), the best speakers and winners of the Georgian national debate tournament, as well as the successful teachers involved in the project, were awarded.
At the awarding ceremony, the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Makharashvili and the head of the Institute of Debate and Education of Georgia Tinatin Tsertsvadze personally congratulated the students and teachers on their victory and handed over certificates and symbolic gifts.
In his speech, the first deputy minister thanked the organizers for providing national and international tournaments within the project and spoke about the importance of teaching educational debates to students. According to Tamar Makharashvili, the project helps students to become free, full-fledged and independent citizens.
It is important that the national tournament, which was the crowning competition within the project, was held in a face-to-face format for the first time under the conditions of the pandemic, and teams selected from 700 students of debate clubs of public schools in Tbilisi and regions took part in it.
Members of 60 debate clubs from different regions of Georgia are actively involved in the “Debates for Better Education” project. Each debate club is led by a specially trained teacher who greatly contributes to the development of new skills in students.
The representatives of the legislative authority of Georgia, Gudavadze-Patarkatsishvili Foundation, private school, higher educational institutions and private sector also took part in the summary event.
